Cross (British Trade Commissioner in Montreal) is seized by two people with a gun at his house · A radio station broadcasts a ransom demand by the two kidnappers · They are members of the FLQ and want 23 prisoners released (who are held for bombings and terrorist crimes) they also want $500 000 in gold and a publication of the FLQ's beliefs. The government has 48 hours. · On the 8th of the same week, the government refuses to comply, but the FLQ's beliefs are read over the radio and television. · On the 10th of October Pierre Laporte (Quebec Labor Minister) is shoved into a blue Chevrolet by four men with machine guns. · The Quebec government now starts to take things seriously · On the 12th of October federal troops take position around all important buildings in Ottawa. · On the 16th of October, Prime Minister Trudeau proclaims the war measures act. · The war measures act takes away all civil rights of all Canadians. Police can charge anybody and hold them for up to 21 days without trial for up to 90 days.
