The Sultanate of Oman (or just Oman), gained its independence in 1741 when the Portuguese were driven from their holdings on the Omani coast. The region, still lead by the Al-Said family has remained independent since that time.
it is now called United Arab Emirates, an independent country from Oman.
Oman has been a country for about 800 years.
There does not appear to be a specific date when Oman officially became a country. The quote from Wikipedia gives a rough estimate. "The Ottomans drove out the Portuguese, but were pushed out themselves about a century later (1741) by the leader of a Yemeni tribe, who began the current line of ruling sultans. A brief Persian invasion a few years later was the final time Oman would be ruled by a foreign power. Oman has been self governing ever since."
