Simon Bolivar was instrumental in helping to set free the country of South America from Spain. Bolivar was born in 1783 and was considered to be Latin Americas greatest leader in their Independence movement.
Led Creole revolts against Spain in northern South America. He was kind of like a George Washington type of guy.

Simon de Bolivar is the name of the liberator and he fought spain for the independence of what is now known as the Bolivarian republics.
Simon Bolivar was fighting for the freedom from Spain of several "nations" in South America. He was called a "freedom fighter" and was instrumental in ending the colonization of several areas in South America. So much so that one nation, Bolivia, is named after him.
