They were killed to extinction by the people who settled there, with poison, traps, and of course, shot. There were not many hiding places, and they ( the wolves) were also curious, never knowing the people threatened their lives. The settlers also held a piece of meat, lured a wolf, and then stabbed it. They never had a chance, except maybe against penguins.
