For those people that had knowledge of Atomic Bombs, it meant that we didn't have to wake up one morning and look out the window and see some large "mushroom cloud" appearing over some city. We all, for the most part, expected it, but didn't let it ruin or run our lives. We lived our daily lives routinely...if it happened...it happened...there was nothing we could do about it. With the end of the cold war...we don't even think about it anymore...it's over.
Bosnia/Kosovo, etc. are direct results of the collapse of the USSR (they are a result of the end of the cold war).
