It was alphabetic, and allowed accuracy and easy understanding of complex words, as opposed to the pictograms and syllabic scripts before they invented this. It was so effective that it was adapted by the Greeks and Romans for their own writing, and forms the basis of our common writing today.
It was the first to use a simple, flexible alphabetic writing system. From the Phoenician alphabet developed the Greek and Roma alphabets which underpin the alphabets we use today.
It was alphabetic and enabled better communication and record keeping.
Phoenicians writing was important because they has so much trade. They needed a way to simplify writing. Cuneiform had hundreds of symbols, just to much and complicating. So they found out a way to write with using 22 symbols. Making it easier for trade.
