i think Ny was pretty chaotic during WWII. The war caused the Great Depression which meant there was little food at high prices. jobs were rare and people were worried about what was going on in Europe. Hope this could help! WW2 didn't cause the Great Depression. The Depression began in the early 30s. One factor being the Stock Market crash in 1929. Certainly in the UK WW2 helped to create full employment which was one of the biggest problems during the Depression. Not nearly as bad as it was for the British people who lived in constant fear day and night of being bombed, all the US had was maybe a few foods weren't around. I believe that New York was actually at its height culturally, economically, and politically during and shortly after WWII. Its factories and industries were at peak capacity- its docks were bustling with trading ships and war-vessels. Its people were proud of their city, and how it had escaped the ruin and devestation of the war. The theaters were running productions like "Oklahoma", and the streets were packed with eager shoppers. In many ways, this period was New York's golden age.
