He started as the god of the wind and as the main god of Thebes. Amun means 'hidden' and he is believed to of created himself and his surroundings, and to be able to be invisible [as is the wind]. Later he was combined with the sun god Ra, and they became Amun-Ra, making him king of the gods because that's what Ra was. As Amun-Ra, people prayed to him for mercy for sins and for help.
Amun did not turn into Amun-Ra, they are two different gods.
Two examples are: * Amun-Ra, a syncretism of Amun and Ra * Ra-Horakhty, combining Ra and Horus Amun, Ra and Horus were considered real, separate gods, who could be inviked in their own right, even as they could be invoked in combination when special powers might be needed.
Re, Amun- Ra or Amun- Re
He did not; the god Amun and the god Ra are two separate deities; a third as Amun-Ra was made from the combining of their names.
