The largest area is French Guiana, an overseas department of France, located east of the former colonies of Guyana (British Guiana) and Suriname (Dutch Guiana).
The Falkland Islands are considered part of South America but are currently under the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom. Other islands farther to the southeast are likewise administered by the UK (South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands).
Excluding the Caribbean islands, some of which are overseas territories (notably the Dutch islands nearer South America), and the UK South Atlantic islands (Falklands, South Georgia), the only major country would be French Guiana, an "overseas department" of France. The other two Guianas are now independent (Dutch Guiana = Suriname, British Guiana = Guyana).
