Being a native texan, I can say that I learned of five regions of Texas. East Texas is full of trees and runs down part of the gulf coast. I've only been that way a few times but I received the impression that it has a very large portion of the poorest people in Texas. North Texas encompasses the Dallas/Fort Worth area and most of the panhandle. There are some good fishing lakes around there but for the most part it is pretty flat and boring, especially the farther west you go. The towns in the panhandle look like everything is covered in a layer of dirt because the plants are scrabbly, but it is not like west Texas deserts. I have never been to west Texas because I have heard there is almost nothing there except El Paso and drug runners. South Texas has the valley, where they grow amazing fruit. It also has the best beaches in Texas and the best fishing. There are beaches there that you can go to almost all year round and swim. The fifth region would be central Texas. It varies from hills to rolling plains and boasts the capital city of Austin, but besides that it is mostly small towns that have strong community ties. Despite it's lack of large towns however, central Texas has seen an increase in job numbers and has not truly felt lasting effects from the economic downturn. Because of this there have been droves of people moving to the area from all states, but mostly from California.
