Australia's early settlers brought various grains from England to grow in New South Wales, but many of these did not succeed because they were unsuitable for Australia's conditions. The kangaroo was quickly seen as a source of food, though their erratic hopping motion made them a little difficult to hunt at first, and the flavour was strong and "gamey".
