Italy is country code +39.

Within Italy, all numbers are 10 digits. Landline numbers begin with 0, and mobile numbers begin with 3. Landline numbers in Rome begin with 06.

To call from outside Italy, just prefix the Italian number with country code +39. Unlike most countries, you do not drop the trunk prefix 0. For example, a number in Rome beginning with 06 becomes +39 06.

(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but North America (USA, Canada, etc.) uses 011, Japan uses 010, Australia uses 0011, and many other countries use different prefixes.)
