The Berlin Wall. It was built by the German Democratic Republic (in East Germany) starting August 13, 1961. It cut off West Berlin from East Germany East Berlin. There are only a few remains now as it was mostly demolished on November 9, 1989, but it is a hugely famous German icon with great historical value.
The wall was important because it would keep away all trade between East and West Germany and would also seperate Communist East Germany from Non-Communist West Germany
