Buddhism is the main religion in Singapore with 42 percent of the population following it.
Singapore is a place not a religion
While plurality of Singapore's population claim to be Buddhists, they are practicing a 'Chinese culture' religion, i.e. ancestral worship, Chinese deities and angels, Confucius teachings, Chinese celebrations of heroism of patriots in Chinese history or miracles of ancient Gods/Goddesses and traditional Chinese funeral rites. The majority of Singaporeans are free thinkers.
Buddhism has the most adherents in this tiny city-state at 42.5%. Islam is next at 14.9%. The rest are Christianity 14.6%; Taoism 8.5%; Hinduism 4% and Other religions at 0.6%. Atheists stand at 14.8%. These are statistics from the government compiled in 2000 and with the recent influx of immigrants since 2006, the figure may have changed substantially. In the same outdated report, there is a mention about a shift towards Christianity. "This shift was associated mainly with the increase in the better-educated Chinese who were more inclined towards Christianity."
