∙ 14y agoIt would appear that "mount" is used as a prefix, or comes before the name, eg. Mount Everest, and that "mountain" is used when it is used as a suffix, or comes after the name, as in Bald Mountain. Also, when there are multiple 'mounts', it becomes the Appalachian Mountains, or the Rocky Mountains. One of the English language's many peculiarities.
