No, not exactly. The United Kingdom (UK) is a broader political entity than England. The United Kingdom includes England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. To add to the confusion, you will also hear the term "Britain." Britain is the island that includes England, Scotland, and Wales. The British Isles include Ireland. To summarize, England is part of the UK.

AnserThis does not clear it up at all...Gibraltar and quite a few other countries DO NOT make up the United Kingdom. The United Kingdon consists of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are Crown dependencies, which means that they are tied to the Monarchy, but not part of the UK. However, for some purposes they MAY be treated as part of the UK. The UK has fourteen overseas territories, but they are not part of the UK. It is not true to state that Gibraltar is part of the UK, it is not. It is a British Overseas Territory by the Act of 2002. Lets clear it up this time, I will be glad to provide further and possibly lengthy information, if required

, along with Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, The Isle of Mann, Gibraltar and quite a few others make up a "united Kingdom" of many countries all run by the same Government. England is the Largest of them all and also contains the capital [London] which is why people tend to think that England and the United Kingdom are the same. I hope this clears it up for you.
The United Kingdom is a country made up of four united ones: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. As 85% of the UK population live in England and 10% live in London, the UK capital, the country sometimes gets referred to as 'England' by mistake. A person is only 'English' if they come from England; if they come from anywhere in the UK they are 'British'.

Great Britain is an island, made up of England, Wales and Scotland. The island of Ireland consists of Northern Ireland and the independent Republic of Ireland. A person from either of these places is Irish, and if they come from Northern Ireland they are also British. Finally, 'Britain' doesn't exist - it's a nickname for the UK.

The full title of the country is 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland'. 'Britain' usually refers to England, Scotland and Wales only, although citizens of all four places are British in international law.
