without conflict, there is nothing to write, there is no story. the story of life is conflict, from a basic bacteria fighting to keep itself integral against its harsh environment, further up to the more complex forms of life. the poem or story may not have a conclusion where the conflict is resolved, but, again, without conflict, no story would ever start.
Conflict should be all through the story until the climax. Without some kind of tension, the story's boring.
Conflict is essential in plots because it drives the story forward by creating tension, engaging the audience, and allowing for character development. It presents obstacles for the protagonist to overcome, leading to growth and change. Ultimately, conflict adds depth and interest to the narrative, making it more compelling for the audience.

Conflict drives the plot of a story by creating obstacles and challenges for the main characters to overcome. It adds tension, suspense, and keeps the audience engaged as they anticipate how the conflict will be resolved. Conflict can also reveal the true nature of the characters and lead to character growth or development.
They can make the story exciting even without a lot of action
What story? No one has any idea what you're talking about or who these characters are without this context.
the conflict in any story is what the problem is, it's what makes the story interesting because the reader wants to find out how the main character solves the problem, without a conflict, the writer is just writing about nothing, and it wouldn't be very interesting.
Conflict is the most important characteristic in any story, as it drives the plot forward and creates tension that engages the audience. While progress, oddity, and unusualness can enhance a story, conflict is the central element that challenges the characters and drives the narrative towards resolution.
The problem in a story is also known as the conflict.
