Founded in 1531, Puebla is the place where the Cinco de Mayo battle took place on May 5th, 1862 when French forces were defeated by an outnumbered Mexican army. It is also home to mole sauce, cemitas and chiles en nogada, three typical dishes. It also was hometown to the Serdan brothers (Aquiles and Maximo) who were the first martyrs of the Mexican Revolution (1910-1921).
Nowadays, it is the 4th largest city in Mexico (2.7 million; 2010 census) and an important industrial center. Tourism and culture are also important, and the city's downtown or "historic center" is considered a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
