Monticello was designed and built by Jefferson. He had travelled a great deal and used the classicalelements in his design he saw in Europe. There are some interesting features in the house. The front hall was designed as a museum where he featured various items that he had collected. He also had the house designed so if there were visitors in the house he had his own little section. In this area, to save space, he designed a bed that was on pulley's He could pull the bed up during the day to make room in the room for other things. His gardens reflect his study of the plants of VA. He was a noted botanist and cataloged the plants of VA. Today his work is still used and he planted his gardens using the plants he found and also added from his travels. Jefferson was a inventor, artist, scientist, writer, and a true Renaissance man.
