Where do we start? First off, the Irish saved Civilization....that is pretty good depending on your point of view.... Read Thomas Cahill's book in his Hinges of History series "How the Irish saved Civilization." With out the Irish monks, all of the learning of the Greeks and Romans and early Catholic church would have been lost to the barbarian invasions that looted monasteries all over Europe. All of Ancient Philosophy and history, including that of the Roman Republic would have been lost. That would have directly impacted English history and, consequently, that of the United States. With out the historical record of the Athenian Republic, there would have been no United States as we know it today. Take a good look at the Book of Kells and other illuminated manuscripts, plus the saved knowledge that the barbarians couldn't burn simply because of the isolation of the Irish Monks. Irish Monks later reintroduced this knowledge back into mainland Europe, as well as in Britain.
Ireland has contributed to the world in many ways. Irish people have travelled to many parts of the world and settled there and brought their culture with them. Many Irish people have travelled to places of great need as missionaries or charity workers. Irish people are known to be very generous in donating money to charity and money is also donated by the Irish government to help aid projects in many countries. Ireland is a neutral country and has never invaded anyone, so it has no major enemies. Irish people are more welcome because of this, than some nationalities. Ireland does have an army and it has been involved in many peace keeping missions in different parts of the world. Ireland produces good food and exports it to many countries. Irish people have made many contributions in things like art, literature, science, education, sport and other such things. So Ireland has contributed many things to the world.
Ireland produces good first and foremost for its own people. Most of what Ireland produces is exported. Ireland exports goods all over the world. The biggest trading partner Ireland has is Britain. A large amount of trade is done with other parts of Europe and the USA and Canada.
