Miguel Hidalgo was the son of Don Cristobal and Dona Ana Maria. Most sources say his parents had three other children, all sons. After Miguel's mother died, his father was remarried, to a widow named Rita; they had another child (a son) during that marriage. There also seems to have been a third marriage, which resulted in five more children, three of whom were daughters, and two of whom were sons. Thus, Miguel had three brothers, three half-brothers, and three half-sisters. There are various sources that contradict each other about the exact number of siblings, but it seems he had a total of at least nine siblings.
