The Chinese were known for growing their own vegetables, which formed the staple of their diet during the Gold rush in Australia. They kept their own pigs, ducks and poultry which they would kill and eat, ensuring they always had a supply of fresh food. Their diet was far better than that of the Australian miners.

Chinese food :)
The English settlers of Australia brought with them many simple, traditional English foods. These include potato dumplings, jam pudding, roasts and stews, lamingtons, and kidney pies.
Chinese food came gradually to Australia, with the arrival of the first Chinese settlers. The first Chinese settler to Australia, Mak Sai Ying, arrived in 1818, and small numbers of Chinese trickled into Australia in the ensuing years. The first large group of Chinese migrants came to Western Australia in 1847, followed by another large group of 121 Chinese to New South Wales in October 1848. These groups were in response to a labour shortage.
Traditional foods that the Chinese eat are rice, dumplings, noodels just to name a few.
