It varies from state to state. In the upper midwest people like casseroles. Many Scandinavian people came up there in the 1800s so Scandinavian foods like lefse (a flat bread eaten with sugar and corn syrup, butter or peanut butter) are popular. In Dearborn there are many Arab and Muslim people so there is hummus, shawarma, tabouli and other Middle eastern/Arab and halal foods. In Ohio we have a specialty called the buckeye ( like the name of our football team) which is a peanut butter chocolate ball. We have lots of baked pasta dishes, Pizza, bread and rice. Ohio is home to lots of Somalians and Nigerians so there are Nigerian dessert puffs and halal food. In Cinicinatti chilly on top of spaghetti is common. In Chicago there are many Irish Americans so there will be a lot of potatoes and other Irish foods. Chicago is Americas third largest city and it is very diverse. Chicago is also home to many Jews, Mexicans, Middle easterners and South Asians so you have matzo balls, pakoras, Mexican rice For all of the Midwest we have lots of Amish food like apple dumplings, shoofly pie, egg noodles and vegetable dumplings. In our state fairs we have anything deep fried especially in Ohio- pickles, ice cream, grilled cheese, buck eyes, candy bars, PB and J and lots more. We all love potatoes baked or mashed and of course corn sense we grow a lot of that here especially in Iowa. Corn on the cob, creamed... The list goes on.
