the United states paid Mexico $15 million dollars for this land, which became known as the mexican cession
The Mexican Cession was the name granted the region of the modern day Southwestern US that Mexico gave up to the US. Before this, it was considered another part of Mexico.
the Mexican Cession
US victory and Mexican Cession.
The United States had originally offered $30 million for the Mexican Cession. But Mexico refused. That angered the Americans. When the American army crossed the Nueces River, the Mexican army shot at the American army. That started the Mexican War. After the Mexican War, they signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The treaty said that the Mexico had to cede the Mexican Cession and the United States had to give Mexico $15 million.
Guadalupe Hidalgo Treaty, ending the Mexican-American War (1846-1848)
The "Mexican Cession" was the vast area of land constituting most of the present Southwest United States, from California eastward to New Mexico. The lands were ceded to the US in 1848 under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that ended the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). The cession amounted to more than 1/3 of the total area of pre-war Mexico, including all or part of the current US states of California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. The US settlement to Mexico totalled $18.5 million. Five years later, the US purchased a much smaller disputed border area for $10 million in the Gadsden Purchase.
Was called the Mexican American War. It happened between the Texas War of Independence and the US Civil War.
The Mexican Cession.
1848 Mexico recognized Texas was part of the US and that the Rio Grande was the border of the two nations. They ceded the Mexican Cession. The US, in return, paid Mexico about $18 million for claims and to protect the Mexicans who lived in Texas and the Mexican Cession.
Indeed. However, it is not called 'secession' but "Mexican Cession".
It did. The capture of Mexico City put an end to the Mexican-American War (1846-1848) and forced the Mexican Cession upon Mexico.
