The feather of Ma'at.
In ancient Egyptian mythology, the god Anubis would weigh the heart of the deceased against the feather of Ma'at, the goddess of truth and justice. If the heart was heavier than the feather, it was believed that the soul would be judged unworthy and face punishment in the afterlife.
Anubis
the feather of Maat? Am unsure but I found the following - http://www.zahihawass.com/valley_of_the_mummies.htm "In these scenes we see the god Osiris on his throne while Anubis weighs the heart of the dead against the feather of Maat" -
Anubis would weigh the heart of the deceased with the feather of Ma'at; if the deceased was wicked Ammit would devour him or her; if the heart balanced with the feather Osiris pronounced judgement and the deceased would be allowed to go to Aaru; Anubis would journey with them there.
Anubis who weighed the soul/heart of a person against the feather of Ma'at.
The Heart was left inside because the Ancient Egyptians thought that it was the center of Intelligence and feeling. It was also left inside the body So the God Anubis would weigh his heart against the feather of truth. The heart. The heart was left in the body so that the Egyptian god Anubis could weigh it prior to guiding the dead through the underworld.
The Egyptian god Anubis would take the deceased's heart and weigh it against "The Feather of Truth". If they were the same weight (or the heart was lighter), the deceased would be allowed to move on to the afterlife. If the feather was lighter then the deceased was sent to what the Egyptians believed was the "underworld".
The ancient Egyptian god Anubis was god of mummification, and the dead on their path through the underworld. He weighed the heart of the dead against the feather of Ma'at.
The heart... The heart was left in the body so that the Egyptian god Anubis could weigh it prior to guiding the dead through the underworld.
They thought your heart was weighed against the feather of truth by Anubis.
In ancient Egyptian mythology, Anubis was believed to weigh the heart of the deceased against the feather of Ma'at, the goddess of truth and justice. If the heart was heavier due to sins and bad deeds, it would be devoured by a monster, condemning the individual. If it was lighter, the soul would be judged favorably and allowed to continue to the afterlife.
