Floods are common in a place like Bangladesh. Bangladesh an alluvial land created by the muds brought by the great rivers originated in Himalaya, Assam range of mountains. In 2004 (like in 1970, 1988, 1997...and so on), flood is common. Every year there is flood. But some times its too much. When the flood is heavy, peasants lose almost everything, their crops, livelihood, cattle, and homes.

When Bangladesh flooded in 1998 several countries assisted with food and rebuilding help. Among the nations that helped were the United States, India, Indonesia, and Japan.
Much of Bangladesh's coastal lands are flat and low-lying. Global warming is warming the oceans, so the water expands and the sea levels rise. Melting ice from glaciers on Greenland and Antarctica is also raising sea levels. This will mean Bangladesh's coastlands will be flooded with salt water, killing all crops for ever.
