In GA you start by filing a declaration of intent to home school with the local superintendent. The parent must have at least a high school diploma or a GED, OR they can hire a tutor who has at least a high school diploma or a GED. There are certain subject that are required to be taught-reading, math, science, etc. You're required to do 180 days of instruction per year. The school day has to be at least 4 & 1/2 hours a day. You have to keep and submit attendance records. There are other requirements too.
