Glassware is Suriname's main manufactured product.

Specifically, manufactured products tend to be items imported by Suriname from nearby Caribbean islands or from European Union countries and the United States of America. But Suriname is hoping to change its export-import picture. Currently, the country exports edibles such as bananas and shrimp and mineral resources such as bauxite and gold. It imports manufactured goods and technology.

Forests, minerals and water are three of Suriname's Natural Resources.

Specifically, over ninety percent (90%) of the country is taken up by a largely unknown, unexplored, undeveloped rain forest. It can become a huge source of revenue through an environmentally conscious development of ecotourism or through a purely profits-oriented pursuit of logging. Additionally, the rain forest is home to many of Suriname's creeks, rivers and waterfalls. But wherever they are located, Suriname's water bodies on their own have cash potential in their hydroelectric uses. One reason for Suriname's rain forest and waterways remaining largely intact is the historic preference for exploitation of such mineral resources as bauxite, copper, gold, iron ore, kaolin, and platinum.
