Catholic Mexico 90+% would celebrate, Christmas and passover. Soothern Mexico also have a Carnival....Fat Tuesday etc. As European influence is harder than north Mexico. Northern Mexico will celebrate Haloween as USA is near.

Patriotic dates mainly are:

16 September Independence from Spain - 1821

20 November Revolution - 1910 (After 32 years Dicatorial President, Mr. P. Diaz)

(and a few others)

And Yes, smaller Scale 5Th of May - 1862

When a disorganized and poor but numerous Mexican Army beated a small but well trained/armed French army trying to conquer Mexico City, Mexicans stopped invaders in a beautiful city named Puebla, but for a few days. Reinforces from France did it..and got Mexico City and nation. Naming an Emperor Mr Maximiliano von Hamsburg...USA helped Mexican resistence and within a few years and a sad series of circumstances France took out his troops and Mr Maximiliano was out (and death) - 1867. Years Later (many) Mexico favored US during WWII Suppling oil and sending planes and What_holidays_do_people_in_Mexico_celebratepilots and fight operators to support operations agiainst Japan troops in Philipines; and yes Mexicans got casualties and caused more and spend about 3 millions of dollars of that time (that sad is war, isn't ?) Luckily its participation was fast and over quick as war was over. That's why some MEXICAN and some AMERICANS celebrate in USA 5 de Mayo with coronas and tecates and burritos...to celebrate friendship. And no , is not Mexico's Independence Day.
