St. Albans, Vermont was the location of the raid by 21 Confederates out of Canada who robbed the village's three banks and escaped back to safety across the border. One Vermonter was killed and one was wounded and one of the raiders died later of wounds. The raiders were arrested by Canadian authorities and at least part of the stolen funds were returned to Vermont. It could hardly be called a Civil War Battle.
