Chillicothe, Ohio was the location of the first Ohio Capital. It was also the location of the third Ohio, Capital. The other capitals were Zanesville, which was the 2nd capital, and Columbus which is the current capital.
The state adopted a more central location in the state, moving the capital from Chillicothe to Columbus in 1816. An earlier change (a political compromise) had the capital at Zanesville between 1810 and 1812, but it was moved back to Chillicothe.
