No. I am a Catholic and us catholics celebrate it as you know to enjoy ourselfs before Lent. But now a whole lot of people get drunk and kill each other but that's in New Orleans. Sane people go to parades and eat king cake. And I am pretty sure not everyone at the parades are Catholic. The whole town is there practically.
Mardi Gras is everywhere, it's a holiday just like Halloween or Easter. MArdi Gras is predominantly celebrated in the new Orleans and southern gulf areas.
Parade-goers is the only thing that comes to mind. Mardi Gras is celebrated by many different cultures and includes most ethnic and socio-economic groups.
Well the biggest festival in Louisiana is the Mardi Gras festival. :)
No, actually Mardi Gras originated somewhere in Europe. The first American "Mardi Gras" WAS in Louisiana:" the first American Mardi Gras took place on March 3, 1699, when the French explorers Iberville and Bienville landed in what is now Louisiana, just south of the holiday's future epicenter: New Orleans. They held a small celebration and dubbed the spot Point du Mardi Gras." The first recorded American Mardi Gras PARADE was in Mobile, AL in 1703. Also, I'd just like to make you all aware that Mardi Gras is recognized as a legal holiday ONLY in Louisiana, its ours, baby, deal.
It is believed that Mardi Gras came to America in the year 1699 with the French explorer Sieur d'Iberville.Mardi Gras is not only celebrated in New Orleans but, in the US is also celebrated in these places: Galveston, Texas, Biloxi, Mississippi, Mobile, Alabama, Pensacola, Florida, and Port Arthur, Texas.Mardi Grasis also celebrated in places outside of the US. These places include: Rio de Janeiro and also Sao Palo, Venice. In Mardi Gras Parades, floats are decorated and people with people wearing big and colorful costumes are riding them. The people who are riding the floats throw away the beads and necklaces towards the crowd, which they collect as souvenirs. The official colors of Mardi Gras are purple, green and gold. Purple for justice, green for faith and gold for power.Mardi Gras literally means "fat Tuesday".Mardi Gras is the day before Ash Wednesday. The Mardi Gras season begins on January 6 and continues until Fat Tuesday.Mardi Gras is a legal holiday in Louisiana.
Only a minority of gay people celebrate Mardi Gras. Most do not.
Mardi Gras when translated from French means "fat Tuesday". It is celebrated on the day before Ash Wednesdays i.e. the day before Lent begins. Lent is a period of 40 days leading up to Easter Sunday where Christians (usually Catholics) fast or restrain from certain luxury goods example sweets. Most English spoken countries call this feast Pancake Tuesday. I stand to be corrected but I don't think one could 'follow' mardi gras. One can only celebrate it. I hope this has answered your question.
Either they're drunk, feeling loose since it's Mardi Gras, they think Mardi Gras is only for adults, guys ask them to so they do it to impress them and get beads, or all of these factors combined.

By best accounts, only one "float" in the early Mardi Gras Parades in the US (specifically - Mobile, Alabama). It was a huge bull's head pushed along on wheels by 16 men.
Most places in the U.S. don't celebrate Mardi Gras in particular. It's mainly something that's in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was originated in the USA in Mobile, AL long before New Orleans even was founded. Mardi Gras is only legally observed as a state holiday in the counties of Mobile and Baldwin in Alabama. The other 65 counties of the state do not recognize it as a holiday.
