Yes, China may have many factories and other environmental hazards that cause smog and pollution all over China. In the bigger cities they even have to wear gas masks and medical masks. (Like ones used in surgical procedures) What is even worse is that they do not have an environmental protection agency like in the USA. It also leads to birth defects and many deaths every year in China, so yes it is much worse than you could possibly imagine, just be grateful you live in a country that cares very much about its environment.
(I am not an environmentalist, heck not even a liberal, I am a Republican and I severely care about our surroundings.)
