He was the song of Zeus and Danae. He defeated the gorgon Medusa, with the aid of Hermes' winged sandals, Hades' helm of darkness, an adamantine sword from Zeus and a polished shield from Athena, cutting off her head. He presented it as a gift to Athena after using it to slay the Cetus (a sea beast sent by Poseidon), rescuing Andromeda (who he married), and to rescue his mother. He later fulfilled a prophecy by accidentally killing his mother's father.

Perseus is the son of Zeus and Danae and is one of the founder kings of Greek myth. After slaying Medusa, he went on to become the king of Argos. He is the first of the Greek demigod Heroes and is considered the progenitor of the Classical Greek race (it is from his mother that a common term for Greeks (Danaans) derives.
