It is not in the Caribbean Sea. It is not an island. It does have a coast near the Caribbean Sea but really on the Atlantic Ocean. The coast of Guyana is outside the accepted boundary of the Caribbean Sea.
Guyana is different from Jamaica, since Guyana is a country and Jamaica is island, but they both share the same simililarities in that the origins of the country stemmed from Great Britain bringing indentured servants to work the plantations from different countries. Indentured servants in Guyana came primarily from India and Africa, whereas indentured servants in Jamaica came primarily from Africa. However, the dialect spoken by Guyanese and Jamaicans are similar.
GeographyGuyana is geographically part of the Caribbean, this is the mainland Caribbean where not only do they share the Caribbean culture but at least one shore is washed by the Caribbean Sea. Suriname and Belize are also included. Contrary to popular belief the Caribbean does not only consist of islands but also countries of the South American mainland. Guyana is definitley culturaly, historicaly and geographically part of the Caribbean.
Region 3 of Guyana includes several islands located in the Essequibo River and along the coast, such as Leguan, Wakenaam, and Hog Island. These islands are predominantly agricultural and are known for their rice and fishing industries. They are connected to the mainland by ferry services and boats.
There are approximately 365 islands in the Essequibo River in Guyana, with many of them being uninhabited and used for agricultural purposes. The largest island is Leguan, followed by Wakenaam and Hog Island.
