Yes, Florida is indeed a peninsula, surrounded by the waters of the Gulf of Mexico (west), the Atlantic Ocean (east), and the Straits of Florida (south). It projects its body from the larger continental USA to the waters, from north to south.

Florida is a peninsula not a cape.

A peninsula. By answers.com's own definition, Florida is a CAPE! The state is not connected to the larger mass of land by an isthmus, a thin strip of land. However, Florida does remain a paradise!

Florida is a peninsula because it juts out into the water and is surrounded by water except at one point. The Atlantic Ocean is to the east, and the Gulf of Mexico to the west.
