∙ 9y agoIn the State of California there are no laws for an eleven year old riding in the front seat. Instead the state only offers a prevention tip: A child should be at least 12yrs of age before they ride in the front seat of a car. Studies have shown that children younger than 12 are not able to handle the impact caused by a frontal crash. There is less impact to the child if they are in the back seat. The only laws regarding child car safety are: * an infant weighing 20lbs or less must be in a rear facing car seat * an infant wieghing 20-40lbs must be in a forward facing car seat * preschoolers must be in a booster seat until they are 6yrs old or 60lbs.

As far as I know, any child under the age of 12 should not ride in the front seat. Especially if you have a passenger air bag.
the child should be at least 9 to ride in the front seat
Yes. It is safe for them as they are in Kindergarden 2 already.
Actually, in California it's:Children must ride properly buckled up, in the back seat, in a safety seat or booster until they are at least 6 years old OR weigh at least 40 lbs.Main exceptions:- A child under age 6 who weighs over 40 lbs. may wear a lap-only belt in the back seat if the vehicle has no shoulder belts in the back seat.- A child under age 6 who weighs less than 60 lbs. may ride in the front seat if there is no forwardfacing rear seat in the vehicle; the child restraint cannot be properly installed in a rear seat; all rear seats are occupied by other children under age 12; or for medical reasons. An infant (riding in a rear-facing child restraint or under one year or less than 20 lbs.) may not ride in front if there is anactive passenger air bag.So if the child is older than 6 or weighs more than 40 pounds, or meets one of the exceptions, they can ride in the front seat.
Children under 4 cannot legally ride in the front seat. Otherwise, it is suggested that anyone under 12 should ride in the back for the highest amount of safety. If necessary for a child to ride in front be sure to push the seat back as far as possible.

Weight and not size determines when they are able to ride in the front. One of the problems with front seats for a child is the front airbags. The airbags have hurt children because they are smaller and lighter in weight than an adult.

In Arizona a child must be at least 5 years old to not require a child restraint, however, a child restraint need not be placed in the back seat. It is unsafe for a child of under 12 to ride in the front seat if there is an air bag.
It is never okay for a child of any age to ride in the front seat if they weigh under 60lbs. It is extremely dangerous. If you were to get in a car accident the speed of the airbag is around 200 mph, and the force of that colliding with the child can lead to broken faces, ribs, whiplash, and even death.
