The value of pure gold in any form changes constantly, based locally on the New York Metal Exchange price (NYMEX), or world market price in USD. There are 31.1 grams in one troy ounce, so as an example if the market price is $1100 per ozt, the value of 1 gram would be $35.37.

For current market price, here is a link to Kitco... http://www.kitco.com/

However, the specific reference to "gold flakes" causes great concerns. This material is found in small glass containers, typically suspended in water; sold on EBay and many other locations, and is almost always NOT GOLD. The simple fact is gold cannot be purchased at half of its value ANYWHERE, except perhaps old karat gold jewelry at unpublished estate sales, or by sheer fortune from unknowing individuals. Otherwise, cheap gold is quite likely to be a scam, and anything to be purchased should be tested by a local jeweler or with an acid test kit.
