Ticket prices can be pretty variable; the best thing to do would be to go to the Amtrak web site and put in your planned trip dates to see.
A friendly warning, though: if you're considering the train because you think it's going to be a lot cheaper than flying, you're probably going to be disappointed.
If you can buy your tickets three or more weeks in advance, you will quickly find that in the US plane travel is almost always a much better deal than train travel, all things considered. It's always faster, often cheaper (if you're traveling with children, this may not be true ... most airlines do technically have a children's rate, but it only applies to full-price tickets; anybody taking up a seat for the cheapest rate categories on a plane is charged the same fare, while children under 13 are almost always half-fare on Amtrak even on the cheap tickets), and generally more convenient (for people outside the Northeast Corridor, the nearest airport is probably closer and likely significantly closer than the nearest Amtrak station). The one advantage the train has is comfort; every seat on a train is comparable in size and comfort to the first-class seats on a plane (and you can get up and walk around pretty much any time you like), and if you like, on many trains you can even get a sleeper room (though they're pricey).
