Las Vegas taxi drivers have a notorious reputation for "long-hauling" passengers (intentionally taking longer routes to run up the fare.) There are TWO routes from getting from the Vegas airport to Strip hotels: the freeway and the city streets.

Vegas cabbies will nearly always ask you whether you want him to take the freeway. This is a trap. "Freeway" sounds faster, but is ALWAYS the longer route. Vegas cabbies know this, but they know that passengers will almost always think the "freeway" is faster, and that as long as they ask first, they can't be accused of scamming their passengers.

This is a well-known Vegas cabbie ruse. The freeway fare will be between $25 and $30. The city-streets fare will be between $13 and $20.
