Since the dissolution of Czechoslovakia into Czech and Slovak Republics, Czech has won the world championships 6 times (1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2010) and the olympic games once (1998). However Czech team is considered a succeeding team to Czechoslovak team so there are 6 more championships medals (1947, 1949, 1972, 1976, 1977, 1985). Czech Republic is also known as "defender of the golden hattrick" meaning that it was the last country that won the world championships 3 times in a row, the last time anybody got close to get this hattrick was Russia in 2010 and they were stopped by the defenders themselves. Also so far it is the only team that managed to get the Hattrick since play-offs were initiated instead of groups only... Also in the time period from the Dissolution of Czechoslovakia (1993-2014) It is the most successful team at the championships. Russia, Canada and Sweden are 2nd with 5 medals each Finland is 3rd with 2 and Slovakia is 4th with 1.
