Different panels are set up to elect the members of the Seanad. For example some are elected by graduates of some Irish universities and some are elected by elected by people in voluntary bodies. Some are appointed by the Taoiseach. People can be nominated for election through the various panels. Anyone over 21 is entitled to be a member if they can get nominated and then elected.
There are no senators in the Dáil Éireann. Senators are in the Seanad Éireann. At the present time (May 2013) Dan Boyle is not a senator in Seanad Éireann, which was elected in 2011. He had been in the one that was elected in 2007.

Fine Gael currently (May 2013) have the largest amount of members of the current Seanad which was elected in 2011 for a maximum 5 year term. The leader of Seanad Éireann, Maurice Cummins, is also a member of Fine Gael.
