Tahitian dancers shake their hips by bending their legs and moving their hips in a circular motion. They must make sure that their hips moving in a complete circle instead of cutting corners. Bending the knees, keeping the upper body straight, and the grass and leaves of the costume create the illusion that the hips are moving extremely fast.
Tahitian dancers usually wear a pareu (skirt), a belt called a viri that makes the hips look bigger, a tehupoo( headdress), and traditionally, Tahitian dancers wouldn't wear tops, but now they wear coconut bras.
The plural possessive form is the dancers' hips.
