Missionaries managed to attract other people to settle in Oregon due to the booming gold rush that was going on in the 1800s. This attracted people from all over the country to head out west in hopes of striking it rich out in Oregon.

The Whitmans sent really good reports back to the 13 colonies, stirring up great interest and bringing lots of settlers and other missionaries West. To Oregon!!!
