World War 2 had both positive and negative effects on the continent. First the positives. World War 2 actually led to a more unified Europe! It led the way for the European Union. However, this is also somewhat negative as it was basically unified as the West and as the East. (Soviet Union in the East) Negative effects include economic devistations, loss in global power (for example, France and the UK were no longer world powers as a result of the war, it was now the US and USSR). It also led to a conflict between the East and West, Democracy vs. Communism. But yet this also led to a positive effect, NATO, and another negative, the Cold War.
It was divided into 2 sides; the Russian in control of everything east of the Elbe river in German (with the exception of West Berlin). While the Western Allies, USA, England, and France influenced the western side of Europe. It would largely remain that way, until the fall of communist Soviet Union and the tearing down of the iron wall in 1990.
because the communist and germanys country lost power
