Bull Sharks can survive in fresh water. They have advanced kidneys compared to other sharks. There is no limit to how long until they have to go back to salt water. They can stay in fresh water as long as they like. When they travel up rivers they try to find the biggest lake they can find so there is enough open space and a good supply of fish.

They are not natural to any river in North America. That's not to say that some idiot couldn't release one into the river but they don't naturally occur there.
