Yes, in fact most Ancient civilizations had slaves. Slaves had the most filthy, and uncomfortable jobs which nobody wants. If you were female you could have ended up being the Emperor's concubine (sex slave) if you were lucky. You may not think that being a sex slave is lucky but to the Ancient Chinese the Emperor was God's representative on earth, so it was a very good job. The Slavery in China was at its peak in the Shang Dynasty.

There were slaves. The rich chinese farmers treated the poor farmers as their slaves in ancient times. African slaves were also bought and sold by Arabs to GuangDong province around the Song Dynasty.
The Chinese were never slaves in America-- yes, they were treated very poorly and payed minimally, but they were never brought down to the level of African slaves (unless they were kidnapped Coolies or prostitutes, but the former went mostly to South America). Interesting question though; after the Civil War when the African slaves were for the most part "free," Southern plantation owners thught that they would be able to use Chinese laborers as a replacement source of cheap labor; however, the Chinese got wise and made the plantation owners draft contracts, and if the plantation owner was to breach his contract with the Chinese, they would sue and usually win their case. Clever :)
Most slaves in the North American continent came from Africa but not all. Some were Chinese, and some Native Americans held slaves at the time that Abraham Lincoln freed all the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation, these people too were free.
These series of walls were build by Chinese slaves as part of a gold mine scheme to sell non-existant gold claimes to easterners.
It varied. The Greeks usually were fairly mild in their punishments, certain Arabs killed them, as did the Romans and Chinese.
