It took its name from where it humbly rolled off the lines- the Morris Garage. ( Morris was the parent company). Many people do not know this. Many MG"s were painted red and this might tie-in to inter alia- much later- the famous advertising mascot Morris The Cat. Sir William Morris- founder of the (Morris) firm eventually became titled Lord Nuffield. then we also have such Knights of the Road as Sirs Herbert Austin and Donald Healey! all Britishers. Oh, and I forget Sir William Lyons , founder of Jaguar ( Guess he wanted to keep things in the (Cat) family, not using his personal name.
