A split queen is a term used to describe a type of queen size box spring. A traditional queen is a one piece box spring. A split queen is actually two small box springs that when put together side by side form a queen size box spring. It is essentially a queen size box spring in two pieces, split down the middle (right side and left side), hence the term queen split. One is not any better then the other. The only reason for a split queen is that it is easier to move. Because box springs are stiff, a queen size may be impossible to maneuver around corners, hallways or doorways in smaller living spaces like apartments, so its much easier to move as two separate parts. All king size box springs are sold as splits for the same reason (beacuse they are huge and impossible to get around narrow corners and stairways).
