It all depends on the figure. Some figures are still highly sought after by collectors, others are virtually worthless, particulary the later Toybiz figures prior to them losing the licence.
Comic shops are a good place to check especially if you live in America but in other countries you are mainly stuck with the internet

Mcfarlane sports figures can be purchased on the internet. Some web sites have very good deals. If you buy more then one Mcfarlane figure some of the web sites you do get a second figure free.

Transformers, Star Wars, Marvel, and many toys made by Hasbro are great action figures for six year old boys. I have a six year old son, I know.
